The Invincible Anita Linda

The Invincible Anita Linda Alice Lake was born on November 23, 1924, also known as Anita Linda. She was born in Pasay City. Her father is a full-blooded American soldier/mining engineer while her mother is Ilonggo. She is a two-time award winning in FAMAS and Gawad Urian award-winning Filipino film actress. She gained serious compliments for her rendering in elderly role. Anita Linda became the oldest actress and the only to win in FAMAS award as the “Best Supporting Actress” for the movie “Ang Babae sa Bubungang Lata” at the age of 74. She was awarded as the “Best Actress” in the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival (Southeast Asia Film Competition) in the name of character Adela.

Anita Linda was discovered at stage show at the Avenue Theater by Lamberto Avellana. The renowned director asked her if she wanted to be a celebrity. Anita had second thought because she did not know how to speak tagalong. She was told to report for rehearsal for the incoming show but her presence did not show.

She first played in “High School” with no dialogue and “Biyernes sa Quaipo” with her leading man, Jaime dela Rosa. It was also Avellana gave her the screen name “Anita Linda” for the movie “Tia Juana”, her opening movie at LVN Pictures. In 1947, Premiere Productions offered her a contract for “Sekretang Hong Kong with Pugo and Togo”, where she castred by Avellana.

Linda portrayed the famous character “Sisa” gotten from Jose Rizal tragic novel Noli Me Tangere in 1951. On this film, she awarded as Best Actress Maria Clara award (a pre-cursor of the FAMAS). 1952, director “De Leon” contracted her in the movie “Sawa sa Lumang Simboryo”, where she got nominated for FAMAS Best Actress Award.
