Reynaldo Valera Guardiano aka Rey Valera was born on May 4, 1954 in Meycauayan, Bulacan, Philippines. He is renowned songwriter, music director, film scorer and a most loved singer. Rey Valera was famous in writing and producing song recorded by various notable singers such as Sharon Cuneta for the song “Mr. DJ”.
In 1977, he started his recording career in his group called Electric Hair Band for seven years. He made named for the song “Ako si Superman” which he himself is the writer and singer. His former boss from “Vicor Records” offered him the opportunity to sing his self composed song as well as hired him as one of in-house Vicors producer.
He also wrote songs for Rico J. Puno such as “Sorry Na”, “Daigdig Ng Ala-ala”, and “Pwede Ba”. Also for Pol Enriquez “Ayoko na Sa ‘Yo” and for Geraldine “Pangako”. While creating album for his peers, he also wrote and album for himself “The Rey Valera Christmas Album”, “Rey Valera Vol. 2”, “Rey Valera’s Greatest Hits Vol. 1”, “Rey Valera’s Greatest Hits Vol. 2”, “Sa Kabila Ng Lahat”, “Pirapirasong Ala-ala”, “Kung Sakaling Iibig Muli”, “Ang Mahalaga”, “FM Ka, AM Ako”, “Home Sweet Home”, “Naaalala Ka”, “hello” and many more which most of these turn to gold and platinum records.
His recorded songs “Walang Kapalit” was compiled at the Vicor Music Corporation’s library as part of their 40th anniversary.
In 2002, he was reunited with Hajji Alejandro and Rico J. Puno in a sequence of concerts called “Greatest Hits” stressing the music on their own time. In the following year Marco Sison and Nonoy Zuñiga joined the group. They tour and performed locally and internationally. They changed the name from “The Greatest Hits” to “The Greatest Hitmakers” as this was more appropriate as this were referring to the their songs and not to the group members.
He was inaugurated as “Alagad ng Sining at Kultura ng Bulacan” to Bulacan’s own “Walk of Fame”, in the “Hardin ng Mga Bayani at Sining”, Malolos City, Bulacan last November 9, 2006. He received a pile of a wet cement to leave a hand print with his name on it.
It was August 17, 2007 when Vina Morales won as the first “Asean Ikon Champion” with the song “Pangako Sa’yo” by Rey Valera. This has been used as the ABS-CBN theme song of their two-year running soap TV series “Pangako sa’yo”.
