Kiefer Ravena: Hot Basketball Sensation on The Rise

Kiefer Ravena: Hot Basketball Sensation on The Rise Kiefer Ravena is indeed a must-see player in this generation of young basketball superstars. Well, his family name already bears the trace of basketball royalty, but more than being the son of the basketball legend Bong Ravena, this kid has enough talent to ink his own name in basketball history.

True to his skills in the court, this young player has kept a lot of fans and UAAP basketball coaches in their seats as he took the time to decide in what school he will be playing considering the many invites he had received. It was just recently that he has finally ended the wait when he broke the news that he will be playing for the Blue Eagles. “More than the desire to help the Blue Eagles win, I also take into consideration the kind of education I get,” the young superstar has been quoted saying.

So how great is this lad, really?

Even while he was still playing in the Ateneo Blue Eaglets, he had already started creating waves in the basketball world. He helped the team get two junior championships – enough said. What made this kid a very inspiring player is the fact that he looks like your average freshman college. And, while he was in high school, he looked just the same. Comparing him to much bigger and bulkier contemporaries, you would be amazed how he impressively took control of the game. This is the reason why even as a freshman, he was already part of the junior varsity, a feat impossible for most aspiring basketball players in high school.

Every body was anticipating a scandal – that instead of playing for the Blue Eagles, the young Ravena would favor playing for UST where his Dad made his name during his college years. It was only recently that Kyle Neypes decided to go to the National University Bulldogs when everybody was expecting that he would continue to make his mark in the UST Growling Tigers. However, Kiefer Ravena took his basketball destiny to Ateneo and many basketball fans are expecting him to make his own mark in the basketball world.

Ana Julaton: Beauty, Brawns, Charm and Boxing Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton is actually Luciana “Ana” B. Julaton. She was born on July 05, 1980 in San Francisco, California. She is Filipino, born and raised in the USA by parents who descended from Filipino immigrants. Presently, she holds a record of 7 wins, 1 by way of knockout, 2 losses and 1 draw. For somebody who debuted her boxing career at 24 years old, becoming the first ever Filipino-American boxer to win women titles for the IBA Super Bantamweight and the WBO Super Bantamweight is definitely a very remarkable accomplishment.

Her training was purely on martial arts. However, while growing up, she did not have much interest in taking either martial arts or boxing seriously. Six years ago, everything would change when she became a bok-fu instructor at the West Win Martial Arts and Boxing School. She started having interest in taking martial arts seriously and eventually decided to box professionally.

Her amateur conquest came as a success when she bagged the silver title in San Francisco Golden Glove. Her foundation in martial arts helped her ink her name in the boxing world even if she was just trained for a week for the said tournament. Her next fight was in 2005 in the National Golden Glove boxing competition. It was here that she started to get noticed. In fact, she had such a marvelous performance that trainer Rick Noble and two time division world champion Carina Moreno agreed to take her in. Because of this, her boxing skills were put to the test and improved even more.

In 2007, she debuted as a professional boxer and won against Rita Valentin. For this fight, she trained under the guidance of Freddie Roach, the famous coach of fellow Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao. This showed her interest and fervor to really succeed in this sport. She had some more wins in the ring before she finally brought home her very first title, the IBA Super Bantamweight, in a fight against Kelsey “The Road Warrior” Jeffries in 2009.

When skeptics thought that she would never win again, Julaton proved why she was dubbed as the Hurricane in a title fight against much more experienced boxer Donna Biggers who had a 19-wins, 16 by way of knock out, record. She won the match and became the very first WBO World Champion in the Super Bantamweight women’s division.

She experienced defeat under the hands of Lisa “Bad News” Brown of Ontario Canada for the WBA Superbantamweight World Championship. Yet, she prevailed afterwards after winning against Mexican Superbantamweight Champion Maria Villalobos reclaiming the WBO title back.
